What it usually turns out to be
The things people describe on the phone, and what each one normally means.
Why does my toilet keep running?
Almost always the flapper or the fill valve. It is a cheap part and a short job, and it is quietly putting water through your meter the whole time it runs.
Why won't my tap stop dripping?
A worn cartridge or seal. Replacing it is routine. Leaving it wears the seat it sits against, which turns a small repair into a bigger one.
Why is my toilet flushing weakly?
Either not enough water reaching the bowl, or a partial blockage past it. Worth checking the first before anyone assumes the second.
Why is there water around the base of my toilet?
Usually the wax seal, sometimes the flange underneath it. It needs lifting to see, and it should not be left, because it is going into the floor.
Why is the pressure bad at only one tap?
An aerator, a cartridge, or a shutoff that is not fully open. Almost never the house.
What affects the cost
These are short jobs and they are priced like short jobs. What changes it is parts availability on older or imported fixtures, and whether a seized shutoff has to be dealt with before the actual repair can start.
